Mission Statement

Mission 

To deliver public safety services in an effective manner in order to resolve community issues and problems while providing for the safety and security of the citizens. This mission is accomplished through a set of values and goals that the department adheres to.

Values 

THE STANHOPE POLICE DEPARTMENT PLACES ITS HIGHEST VALUE ON HUMAN LIFE 

Our department sets the highest priority of its resources towards the protection on human life. The Department is continuously alert and prepared to take action to protect the citizens from and in life threatening situations  

THE STANHOPE POLICE DEPARTMENT BELIEVES THAT THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN IS OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE 

Protecting the children of our community is a top concern of this department. Officers remain ever vigilant to take action where any situation may endanger the safety or morals of a child. The department strives for a rapid response and consummate investigation into any condition where a child may be endangered  

THE STANHOPE POLICE DEPARTMENT MUST PRESERVE AND ADVANCE THE PRINCIPALS OF DEMOCRACY  

The Department must protect life and property, while maintaining order, in a manner consistent with our democratic government. Officers shall enforce the law and deliver public safety services with the means bestowed upon us by our government. Each officer must respect and protect the rights guaranteed to each citizen by the US Constitution, The Constitution of New Jersey,  as well as Federal, State, and Municipal Laws 

 

THE STANHOPE POLICE DEPARTMENT SHALL MAINTAIN THE HIGHEST STANDARD OF INTEGRITY  

The community places the highest trust in its law enforcement officers. Each officer must recognize that they are held to a higher standard of accountability than the citizen. We must be mindful to never violate public trust. Our conduct, both on and off duty, must be beyond reproach 

 

THE STANHOPE POLICE DEPARTMENT BELIEVES THAT THE REDUCTION OF CRIME IS AN OPERATIONAL PRIORITY 

Through the use of proactive tactics, patrol activities and investigations, officers shall strive to reduce the frequency of crime. Their activities are intended to improve the quality of life and to reduce the fear that is generated by the reality  and perception of crime 

Goals 

TO PROVIDE THE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH THE COMMUNITY FEELS SECURE FROM CRIME AND INTIMIDATION 

The Stanhope Police Department strives to maintain an ever-present visual appearance in the community. We enforce criminal law to protect the innocent from those that would violate their rights. We take actions not only to apprehend violators, but to prevent crimes from occurring 

 

TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL ORDER AS IS STATED BY THE STATE AND MUNICIPAL LAWS 

The Stanhope Police Department delivers public safety services relative to the maintenance of social order 

 

TO PROVIDE CITIZENS THE RIGHT TO SAFELY TRAVEL THE ROADWAYS OF THE BOROUGH OF STANHOPE 

The Stanhope Police Department promotes roadway safety through traffic enforcement, education and continuous monitoring of roadway hazards 

 

TO MAINTAIN A HIGH LEVEL OF SUPPORT FROM THE COMMUNITY WE SERVE 

Through community involvement, we monitor the public's concerns. In conjunction with the community, we develop plans to address public safety issues 

 

TO SUSTAIN A LEVEL OF PROFESSIONALISM CONSISTENT WITH THE DEMANDS PLACED UPON THE DEPARTMENT

The public expects and is entitled to a professional Police Department. Through recruiting, training, developing and promoting its members, the department maintains a professional staff to conduct its business

Immigration Law Enforcement

View our policy for contact with subjects who are not U.S. citizens and who are not in the U.S. legally. To foster a trust between law enforcement and undocumented aliens and to set guidelines for sharing immigration information with I.C.E.

Law Enforcement Drug Testing

View our policy in accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Drug Testing Policy revised May 2012, New Jersey Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Directive No. 2018-2 and Stanhope Police Rules and Regulations.
